The Department of Cinema and Media Studies at The University of Chicago is seeking applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor in the field of Latin American cinema, expected to begin in Fall 2015. Candidates should have demonstrable research potential and teaching qualifications in the field. They also should be qualified both to teach introductory and required courses in film theory and history, and to direct doctoral theses. We welcome a wide variety of approaches—historical, theoretical, aesthetic, archival—and topics. Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese, as well as English, is required.
Letters of application should be accompanied by a CV, three letters of recommendation, a writing sample, and sample syllabi (preferably for one graduate and one undergraduate course). Conferral of Ph.D. by June 30, 2015, is highly preferred, and Ph.D. degree must be conferred within one year of start date.
